TIME OF REVELATIONA Retrospective Exhibition by Yuliia Lazarevska
As part of Bouquet Kyiv Stage, the first retrospective exhibition of Yuliia Lazarevska will present the legacy of the multidisciplinary artist, documentary filmmaker, screenwriter, sound designer, and one of the outstanding figures of Ukrainian culture in the second half of the twentieth and the early twenty-first century.
Time of Revelation is the first attempt to restore the artist's name to the contemporary cultural landscape and to present her body of work as a coherent artistic legacy. The exhibition's title refers to the photographic process of developing an image—the moment when what has been hidden gradually becomes visible. The time has come to reveal Yuliia Lazarevska's work to a wider audience, return it to active cultural life, and introduce it to a new generation of viewers.
Yuliia Lazarevska (1945–2021) worked across a wide range of media, including painting, graphic art, sculpture, performance, and film. Yet throughout her career, the human being remained at the centre of her artistic vision—its inner world, memory, the passage of time, and the constant process of transformation.
The exhibition at the Khlibnia Gallery of the Sophia of Kyiv National Reserve is built around the artist's long-term series developed over several decades. Working in series formed the foundation of her artistic thinking: individual works come together as complete cycles that capture observations, emotions, and inner states.
The exhibition unfolds through two emotional dimensions—Day and Night. Rather than following a chronological order, the works are grouped according to their emotional resonance, creating a dialogue between light and darkness, joy and sorrow, serenity and anxiety. This curatorial approach reveals the richness and complexity of Lazarevska's vision of the human experience. The exhibition features paintings, graphic works, sculptures (1994–2019), as well as archival materials and video excerpts.
An important part of the project will be a programme of screenings of Yuliia Lazarevska's documentary films, revealing another significant dimension of her artistic practice.
To accompany the exhibition, a special catalogue issue of Antikvar magazine dedicated to Lazarevska's artistic legacy will be published. The programme will also include a public discussion with the exhibition's curators, members of the artist's family, and her colleagues.
Time of Revelation restores Yuliia Lazarevska's rightful place in the history of Ukrainian art, presenting her as an artist whose multifaceted legacy is an important part of Ukraine's contemporary cultural heritage.
