Cuts & Scars: Remembering Lucio FontanaPerformance by VOZIANOV
This project by renowned designer Fedir Vozianov was inspired by the work of Lucio Fontana — the Italian painter, sculptor, theorist, abstract artist, and innovator. Fontana became world-famous for his iconic canvases with cuts and slashes.
Breaking through the boundaries of the canvas can be achieved — among other ways — through the traumatic act of a sharpened blade invading the body of the painting. Fontana realized this as early as 1949 when he created his first tagli (cuts), launching yet another revolution in the history of art.
Interestingly, the idea that to enter the third dimension one must first cut the fabric was well known to tailors long before Fontana’s experiments. Every dress is a sum of cuts and scars, and only the fabric itself knows how painful the process of escaping two-dimensionality can be.
Vozianov’s concept and performance resonate deeply with our present moment. Today, both metaphorically and literally, our entire country is made of cuts — transforming into scars that lead us into a new dimension of existence.

The performance will be accompanied by live music.
