Concert "City Lights"National Ensemble of Soloists "Kyiv Camerata"Nikoloz Rachveli, conductor (Georgia)
The renowned Georgian conductor, pianist, and composer Nikoloz Rachveli joins the National Ensemble of Soloists "Kyiv Camerata" to present excerpts from his acclaimed projects Map of Memory and City Lights, previously performed on stages across Georgia and Europe.
The programme features music written for the cinema by Charlie Chaplin, Nino Rota, Michel Legrand, Ennio Morricone, Astor Piazzolla, Myroslav Skoryk, Valentyn Sylvestrov, Vadym Khrapachov, and Giya Kancheli.
Some music is instantly recognizable from its very first notes. It has long transcended its original role as film music to become part of our shared cultural memory. It outlives the films for which it was written, continuing its life in concert halls, in the memories of audiences, and through new interpretations. It is precisely from such works that the concert City Lights is composed.
The programme brings together irony and tenderness, drama and luminous melancholy, French elegance, Italian theatricality, Argentine passion, Ukrainian lyricism and meditative depth, and the distinctive inner dramaturgy of Georgian music. From these diverse musical voices emerges a true Map of Memory.
Nikoloz Rachveli's original orchestral arrangements, performed by Kyiv Camerata, reveal new dimensions of these beloved works that have become part of the world's cultural heritage. Here, the Georgian composer's artistic vision meets the Ukrainian performance tradition and music that belongs to the entire world.
Nikoloz Rachveli is one of Georgia's leading composers, conductors, pianists, and cultural figures, a recipient of the Shota Rustaveli Prize and a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in Georgia. His unique combination of composer, conductor, and soloist lends his performances exceptional emotional depth and a distinctive artistic voice.
Ukraine has long held a special place in Nikoloz Rachveli's creative life. A longstanding friend of Ukrainian musicians, he has performed in Ukraine on numerous occasions and collaborated extensively with Ukrainian orchestras and soloists. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, he has consistently supported Ukraine, demonstrating through his art that music can serve as a language of solidarity, freedom, and human dignity.
The National Ensemble of Soloists "Kyiv Camerata" is one of Ukraine's foremost classical ensembles and has played a defining role in shaping the country's contemporary musical landscape for more than four decades. Founded by Valerii Matiukhin, the ensemble has premiered works by Valentyn Sylvestrov, Yevhen Stankovych, Myroslav Skoryk, Ivan Karabyts, Viktoriia Poleva, Zoltan Almashi, and many other Ukrainian composers.
Today, Kyiv Camerata actively represents Ukrainian musical culture on international stages, combining outstanding artistic excellence with an openness to innovative creative projects.
