Serhii Mykhalchuk’s Photo Exhibition “Veterans’ Theatre”

The photo exhibition “Veterans’ Theatre” documents the development of a theatre project in which veterans of the Russo-Ukrainian War undergo a process of rehabilitation through art. The photographs capture not only rehearsals and stage performances, but also moments of trust, personal transformation, and human connection that shape the creative process.

Photographer Serhii Mykhalchuk has followed the participants throughout the creation of the Veterans’ Theatre production “Eneida” — from the first creative meetings to the stage. Each photograph reveals the participants’ emotional journey, their focus, mutual support, and gradual return to active social life through shared artistic practice.

The exhibition demonstrates how art can serve as an effective tool for overcoming traumatic experiences. It offers compelling visual evidence of how cultural practices are being used in Ukraine during wartime as a means of rehabilitation and recovery.

For an international audience, the exhibition presents the Ukrainian experience as an example of how creative practices can contribute to rehabilitation, social reintegration, and the development of new forms of human connection and social resilience.

The exhibition is part of the “Culture vs War. Empowered” project, implemented by the Association “Watch Ukrainian!” The project presents the Ukrainian experience of using culture as a tool for recovery, strengthening social resilience, and developing international dialogue. The photo exhibition is curated by Andrii Rizol.

The exhibition runs through August 16.

Admission to the museum complex “Sofia Kyivska” requires a valid entrance ticket (UAH 500 full price, UAH 250 reduced price).
