Pre-premiere Screening of the Documentary “Palyanytsia”Part of the KinoBouquet program at the Bouquet Kyiv Stage Festival
On August 16 at 18:00, we invite you to an open-air film screening at the Bouquet Kyiv Stage Festival in Sophia Kyivska.
Palyanytsia is not just a film — it is an exploration of a phenomenon. It plunges into the minds of two American street artists, Bandit and Johnny, who have always seen the world through the lens of their art. At home, their paints were an expression of freedom, a protest against the system. They thought they understood the world — until the war in Ukraine shattered that illusion.
Their journey begins not as an act of heroism, but as an attempt to comprehend what is happening. Kyiv, Irpin, Bucha, Borodianka, Kharkiv, Kramatorsk, Kostiantynivka, Odesa, Mykolaiv — these are not just cities, but experiences that demand awareness. Ukrainians, despite pain and loss, remain strong. Their resilience becomes a phenomenon impossible to ignore.
Against this backdrop, the art of the protagonists takes on new meaning. It no longer seeks to provide answers — instead, it becomes a tool for asking questions. Questions that transcend the ordinary: “What does it mean to be human in the face of destruction?” or “How can you change yourself in order to find your true self?”
In this film, palyanytsia is not just a word. It is an intention. A point where subjective experience meets objective reality. It becomes a symbol demanding reflection from each viewer: “Who am I? What am I worth? And whose side am I on?”
This is not a film about the external — it is about the internal. It is an act of phenomenological research where, through art and the confrontation with the foreign and the incomprehensible, the protagonists arrive at a simple truth: the only way to change the world is to change yourself.
In the finale, Bandit addresses the audience:
“You’re watching this film? Then you’ve already taken the first step. ‘What is palyanytsia?’ — this is not a question, it’s a phenomenon that opens you to yourself.”
