Bathing in RaspberriesLecture and concert of music by young Ukrainian composers: A. Zvarych / M. Ivanov / O. Shmurak
In this curatorial project, Oleksii Shmurak brings together works by contemporary Ukrainian composers that explore sincerity, vulnerability, beauty, bodily pleasure, and honesty with oneself. The project’s title directly reflects the fusion of deep pleasure (“bathing”) with the fragile delicacy of the raspberry – a natural aphrodisiac that, in folk imagination, is associated with sensuality, arousal, and a pleasant warmth in the body.
The concert features compositions for solo piano, solo violin, flute, and a quartet of violins – an instrumental combination rarely found in the history of academic music.
The performers are musicians for whom engaging with the artistic and aesthetic challenges of contemporary classical music is part of their daily practice.
