One of the pillars of Ukrainian avant-garde, painter, graphic artist, and monumental artist. This artist’s name is associated with an entire era in contemporary Ukrainian art. He is part of the “Sixtiers” generation and one of the most sought-after artists of the 21st century.
EDUCATION
Graduated from Kyiv Art Institute with a specialization in Painting; pursued postgraduate studies at the Creative Workshops of the USSR Academy of Arts in Kyiv.
ARTISTIC DIRECTION
Oleksandr’s early works leaned toward the stylistics of the “Severe Style” of the 1960s. He developed his own figurative-plastic painting system combining interpretations of Suprematism, late Cubism, geometric abstraction, traditions of national icon painting, and the avant-garde of the 1920s. Since 1970, he has worked in mural painting. His art exists at the intersection of figurative and non-figurative styles. His work belongs to an abstract-symbolic trend that produces an individual vocabulary of signs, hieroglyphs, pictograms, and ideograms.

EXHIBITIONS
Since the 1980s, Oleksandr Dubovyk became one of the Ukrainian artists to gain the opportunity to travel abroad and showcase his art worldwide. In 1988, he held a solo exhibition at the Exhibition Hall of the USSR Artists’ Union, followed the next year by exhibitions at the USSR Artists’ Union Hall and the Weiner Gallery in Munich. Since 1990, he has held annual solo exhibitions in museums, exhibition halls, and galleries in Ukraine and abroad (USA, France, Germany). In the mid-1990s, he created two monumental works — stained glass windows in the New Apostolic Church in Kyiv (1994-1995) and wall paintings in the Chapel of Notre-Dame des Anges in the commune of Barr-les-Alpes near Nice (1996).
His works are held in the collections of the National Art Museum of Ukraine, National Museum “Kyiv Art Gallery,” Khmelnytskyi and Zaporizhzhia Art Museums, Wurt Museum (Erstein, Germany), Museum of Contemporary Art (Tehran, Iran), Ukrainian National Museum (Chicago, USA), Zimmerli Art Museum (New Jersey, USA), and many private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
